CLOVER, S.C. –Beginning Monday, June 9, the Clover School District will offer a mobile library as part of its summer reading program. New for 2014, the district will be distributing backpacks of food as part of its summer feeding program at each Books on Wheels stop. Books on Wheels will make 17 stops throughout the district and offer selections for all grade levels, including books on each school’s summer reading lists.
Books on Wheels will operate during the weeks of June 9, June 16, 16, 23, July 7, 14, 21, 28, and August 4. Students and parents should look for a white van with a “Books on Wheels” and Clover School District logo that will be parked at each location for approximately 25 minutes on the scheduled time and day. Two school district employees will be on-site to assist children with book selection and to ensure safety at each stop.
An extension of the district’s Back the Pack feeding program, a $1,000 Hunger Relief and Healthy Eating grant from Wal-Mart in Lake Wylie and additional community donations will enable the district to offer food assistance throughout the summer. The grant, approved by store manager Russell Sinclair, helped the district to purchase raisins, Pop Tarts, beefaroni, ravioli, popcorn, and granola bar to supplement the donations that help to stock the district’s food pantry. Families may collect a bag each week from the Books on Wheels van, which will make stops throughout the district this summer.
