Magic, Masks, Mirth, Music and More Highlight CSDA Series’ 13th Season
This is not an illusion. The 13th season of the Clover School District Auditorium Performing Arts Series is a magical and musical phenomenon starring artists of regional, national and international acclaim.
From world class banjo playing, to ancient stories, jazz singers to a legendary a capella group, musical theatre to theatre of illusion, the Clover School District Auditorium Performing Arts Series continues to educate, enlighten, enrich and entertain audiences of all ages.
A unique trait runs through this season as three of the events feature husband and wife performing together. So, make your plans now to join in the family fun!
The season begins in September as banjo virtuoso Alison Brown brings her jazz hued acoustic music back to the CSDA stage. No one knows what to call her music, not even Brown. “It’s blue-jazz pop grass, with a translucent, overlying, distinctly feminine quality,” Brown says. Husband, record company co-founder, and bassist Gary West joins her onstage.
October brings the “beautifully, authentic voice” of Jaimee Paul. Imagine a 1940’s Jazz club with the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Rosemary Clooney and others. Jaimee Paul and her Jazz combo, led by husband Leif Shires, on trumpet, deliver just that.
Two great family shows are in store in November. The sixteenth annual CSDA Family night features Doug Berky with Foibles, Fables and Other Imaskinations. Berky intricately weaves old, even ancient stories with Commedia Del Arte, physical comedy, mime, mask, theatre, clowning, circus arts and storytelling into a rich tapestry that transcends age, race, and culture.
For more than a decade, Kevin and Cindy Spencer have dazzled the world with their engaging personalities, entertaining stage magic, and breath taking illusions. The Spencers have re defined the art of illusion and are shattering the stereotype of the traditional magician and assistant.
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte crosses over the Buster Boyd Bridge in January to show off The Emperor’s New Clothes. This world premiere is a delightfully funny re-telling of the Hans Christian Anderson story.
Two marvelous musical events are slated for February. Della’s Diner is a hilarious musical soap opera full of non-stop fun, laughter and radioactive chili.
Celebrating their 50th anniversary, the London based Swingle Singers are legendary in the world of a cappella. The Swingle Singers take audiences on a journey through a multitude of musical styles and atmospheres pushing the boundaries of what the human voice can achieve.
In March, cellist and mezzo soprano Shana Tucker takes a break from performing in the Cirque du Soleil production of KA at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand to perform in Clover. Transcending genre limitations, Shana Tucker is a distinctive cellist and singer/songwriter whose music is an instantly captivating, sultry pastiche of acoustic pop and soulful, jazz influenced contemporary folk. Tucker blurs the lines that divide classical, jazz, folk, R & B and Soul.
April showers bring the final event of the season. The producers of top rated shows in Myrtle Beach, Pigeon Forge and Branson, invite you to celebrate America’s decades long love affair with Country music with
Live From Nashville. Proud alumni from Opryland and TNN comprise the company of musicians, singers, dancers and fiddlers in this song and dance spectacular.
Season tickets are available for $50.00 per person. Individual tickets are also on sale for each event.
