Clover School District to Offer First Montessori Program
CLOVER, S.C. – Being committed to offering diverse programs to serve the varying needs of each student, Clover School District will, for the first time in 2017-2018, offer a Montessori program for three and four year-old children.
Griggs Road Elementary school will be home to the district’s Montessori program which will host 18 three and four year-old students in the first year, before carrying over five year-old students the following year to create a classroom with three, four, and five year-olds.
The Montessori method promotes classrooms that are made up of a mixed age group of students therefore forming communities in which the older children spontaneously share their knowledge with the younger ones. Montessori also enables children to explore a variety of materials with differing levels of difficulty and fosters leadership skills. Montessori represents a different approach to education that has successfully developed motivated and self-disciplined learners.
To introduce the program to the community, Clover School District will host three parent meetings at the following date, times, and locations to provide information regarding how the program will run:
In order to register for the program, parents must attend one of the meetings to pick up a registration form. The program will be open to students throughout the entire district, not just those that live within the Griggs Road zone. The registration form and all required documentation must be submitted by March 1, 2017 to the student’s home school.
The district will hold an open lottery on March 14, 2017 at the district’s main office located at 604 Bethel Street from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. to select the students that will be eligible to enroll in the Montessori class for the 2017-2018 school year.
Shortly following the lottery, families will be notified of their placement. For families that are not placed within the Montessori program they will have the option to be placed on a waiting list for any opening that may occur. Families that have registered a pre-kindergarten aged child that was not selected will have the option to be screened for the district’s pre-kindergarten program.
